Leading Michigan's Thumb
to a better Quality of Life
Kurt Damrow for Michigan's 84th
District House of Representatives
"Recover Michigan - One County at a time" was my campaign pledge in 2010. Here we are in 2012 and I can proudly say we are on the road to recovery! It has been an honor to serve my consituents in Huron and Tuscola counties, and I ask for your support in the upcoming election so that we can continue recovering Michigan! I went to Lansing and stressed the importance of county and township government. I believe we as Legislators are elected to represent our districts residents in the state and not represent the state to our district. I have fought hard to bring Honesty, Integrity and Accountablity to Michigan's Government. I made a commitment to make the difficult decisions necessary to create a better future for our State.
The Thumb will lead Michigan’s recovery, and Michigan will lead the nation’s recovery, I believe the Thumb will experience a Super Bowl of economic success in the coming years.
It’s ambitious, but it’s possible, and we have the tools to make it happen.
Find out more about my plans for Michigan’s Thumb here on my website. I look forward to meeting you soon and discussing your concerns in my travels across the District. If you have questions or would like to discuss an issue, please email me at kurt@damrowforhouse.com
Thank you in advance for your encouragement and support. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
.
Kurt Damrow
I ask for your support in my bid to become your next state representative. A lifelong resident of Huron County, I have served as a Huron County commissioner since January 2009. I have worked for positive change for Huron County and the upper Thumb. My family and I now feel that the time has come for me to seek higher office. I want to bring jobs and positive solutions to the upper Thumb.
I currently serve as chair of Huron’s Windturbine Subcommittee, and have worked with Thumb area wind farm developers and area economic development offices on a nearly $10 billion dollar project. The wind project will generate $300 million in tax revenue, and bring work and jobs to the upper Thumb.
Our veterans have sacrificed so much to protect and defend our freedom. They deserve our utmost respect and support. I have spearheaded efforts with the Veterans Administration and Huron County to finalize an agreement that tentatively will open a new VA Super-clinic in Bad Axe in late August 2010.
As your State Representative I will continue my efforts to bring jobs to Michigan’s Thumb. Over the past several months I've met with companies from Germany, China and the U.S. We have discussed the future of the Huron County and upper Thumb green energy projects and how these companies could fit in. Working with wind energy developers, utility companies and others will help us fund a project with Huron’s EDC office called "MI Green Thumb". We are working to create high quality brochures to market Huron County to these international and U.S. companies. Our meeting led us to investigate making the Harbor Beach deep water port an international trade zone. Two manufacturers are discussing the possibility of locating their first U.S. operations in Huron County and a future relationship with automotive hybrid manufacturing.
Agriculture is also key to our survival. The staple of the upper Thumb through all the economic downturns has been agriculture. I've been leading a charge in opposing and preparing for regulations the Obama administration is proposing that will negatively affect our farming industry. The EPA is proposing many new regulations on farming operations, beginning with enforcing new stormwater discharge requirements in December 2013. At this time the EPA has classified "Milk" in the same category as "Oil"! If a truckload of milk were to spill it has to be treated the same as if a tanker of oil or hazmat has spilled.
My opponent has voted seven times to increase taxes in the last three years. Terry Brown recently co-sponsored a bill to pull Michigan’s Concealed Weapons permits from the county and give them to the Secretary of State’s office. Our current representative is a likeable guy, but we represent different ideas of what state government should be, who a state representative works for, and have very different training and backgrounds.
I have the experience in the public and private sector needed to take on this job. My experience working in county government includes serving as the Huron County Emergency Services Director, and with the American Red Cross as the volunteer Huron County Disaster Relief Coordinator. I am a former member of the Port Austin Fire Dept. and Central Huron Ambulance Service. My experience with the Air Force and Air National Guard taught me descipline and that it's sometimes necessary to make tough choices and sacrifices.
